The Inspired Home Show 2024 Trends & Insights

Big thirst quenchers

This year, we've witnessed a surge in the popularity of 40 oz tumblers. Stanley stands out as a prominent trendsetter, while Hydro Flask, Yeti, and Simple Modern have all seized upon this newfound craze.

Cuisinart SoHo collection

Cuisinart's new Soho Collection captures simple, iconic geography with beautiful, subtle scalloping surface details. This brand language extends across a coffee maker, blender, and a to-go tumbler (24oz only).

Made By gather: bella reboot

Achieved through clean and approachable geometry, Made By Gather revitalized the Bella brand. At the Housewares Show in Chicago, they illustrated this with a team dressed in matching beige 'athleisure' wear, framed by their monochromatic show kitchens. There was a significant emphasis on smart, compact storage solutions, such as their fold-out electric griddle and stackable 'snackable' sized waffle makers.

Umbra Storage

As a stellar example of simple, beautiful, and playful design in the home, Umbra excels at finding the small details that make it stand out amidst the noise.

Youcopia Drawers and cabinets

Soft forms and clean geometry complement the versatile space-saving and organizing power that it delivers to its customers. Adaptable drawer dividers and wrap dispensers with built-in slide blades help create order in a chaotic kitchen.

Cozzolino Studio at the Show

Our newly premiered Made By Gather: Bella reboot! Mini waffle makers, folding electric griddles and compact blenders.

Generative AI

Engaging interview and meaningful insights about Generative AI and its impact on the creative industry. Scott Henderson and I chat about how designers are using AI to complement their process. Thanks to Tom Mirabile and HomePage News for this fun episode and feature on Design Driven.

In this episode of Design Driven, Springboard Futures' Tom Mirabile talks to industrial designers Steve Cozzolino and Scott Henderson about how generative artificial intelligence (gen AI) is being used increasingly in design applications.

Generative AI is a technology that can be used to generate concepts and dimensional images in designing physical products. This process starts with a prompt or query in the form of text, an image or even an existing design, in the same way one might use a search engine like Google.

Unlike search engines in common use, it does not simply return existing knowledge for the user to sort through. Instead, gen AI uses various algorithms to translate responses to that query and generate new, unique representations of dimensional objects, illustrations and original product concepts.

While the complexity of generative AI currently exceeds our ability to imagine its uses, in the foreseeable future, it will help write code, develop products, redesign business processes and transform supply chains.

However, there are as many concerns as questions surrounding generative AI. Among these are its potential misuse and abuse and its potential to disrupt existing business models.

Design Driven turns to those at the vanguard of this technology's use to help us unpack its fundamental usage and realities.

IDSA Design Entrepreneurship Deep Dive Panel

I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to share my insights and experiences gained from the more than 16 years of operating my own design studio at the IDSA Design Entrepreneurship Deep Dive virtual event. Succeeding in this endeavor demands a willingness to embrace early and frequent failures, coupled with unwavering creative tenacity, along with a healthy dose of persistence, perseverance, and fearlessness. Furthermore, embarking on your entrepreneurial journey inevitably involves facing inherent risks. It also requires the capacity to remain comfortable in uncomfortable situations.

The panel discussion was a resounding success, and I would like to extend my gratitude to the moderator, Steve Doehler, as well as my fellow panelists, Jason Martin, Mickey McManus, and Samantha Noyes, for their valuable contributions.

Additionally, I want to thank IDSA and everyone involved for hosting such a fantastic virtual event. Connecting with the community and hearing insights from many talented individuals was truly enriching. Design entrepreneurship is a significant topic that many face alone, and having a space where we can discuss and support each other is key to fostering success for everyone.
