ICFF 2019 Trends and Observations

Space Defining and Privacy

With open offices now standard, furniture companies are filling the need for temporary defined spaces and the occasional need for privacy through soundproof privacy pods, and movable walls, shelves, and white boards.

2019_ICFF_Trends.jpg

High Contrast Textures and Marbling

A continuing trend of high contrast marble finishes (faux and real) as well as highly textured and contrasting manufactured materials which embrace an element of randomness.

2019_ICFF_Trends2.jpg

Delicate Lighting

Lighting at ICFF utilized visually lightweight materials and took advantage of the minimal size of LED lights to create intricate and elaborate structures that maintained a delicate feel.

2019_ICFF_Trends3.jpg

Elemental Repetition in Lighting

Simple geometric forms, repeated and patterned, made up intricate lighting structures. This created a nice contrast between the simple individual elements and the complex, organic nature of the overall forms.

Muted Color Blocked Layers

A continuing trend of soft muted colors has been enhanced through blocks and layers with subtle shifts in tones and values.

Nature Inspired

Nature inspired patterns and shapes were seen in everything from seating to lighting, and wall coverings.

Steve Cozzolino to speak on Panel Discussion for Design Talks NYC

Designing for Public Space

TUESDAY, MAY 14 • 3:00PM

4 Times Square, between W42-W43 Street at Broadway

On Tuesday, May 14 at 3pm, Steve Cozzolino will speak on a Panel for Design Talks NYC about Designing for Public Spaces. Design Talks NYC is part of Design Pavilion in Times Square.

Steve will be joined by Victoria Milne, Wendy Feuer, and Sigi Moeslinger and Masamichi Udagawa. The moderator will be Karrie Jacobs.

RSVP Here

“A thoughtfully-designed public space both embodies and instills good civic values,” according to panelist Victoria Milne.  However, we don’t think frequently enough about public spaces in terms of product design.  Product, or industrial, design describes the scale of street furnishings and transit systems where elements of touch, clarity of use, comfort, durability and familiarity are important parts of creating a successful experience.  Here poor design is experienced as frustration, danger, or disuse, and good design is when people enjoy facilities and find them easy to use.  This panel is a rare opportunity to unpack the thinking that goes into making public space objects successful.
